Richard,
Now that the conference is mostly behind us, I wanted to take a moment and
thank you for an outstanding job. While I never had to touch CyberChairPRO,
I have been able to see first hand the smooth way it worked. There have
been no complaints and I strongly recommended the system for future use to
the steering committee. Thank you for making my job easier and for ensuring
that the conference preparation went smoothly.
According to the feedback I continue to receive, the conference was indeed
a great success in terms of program, innovative ideas, organization, quality
of the experience, overall attendance level (1,100), finances, memorable
reception, etc.
Your contributions are much appreciated.
Catalin

Hear, hear. Bill and I did use CyberChairPRO, relied on it for our sanity,
and found your responsiveness and support outstanding.
Thank you, Richard.

Let me chime in here to offer a special word of thanks to Richard. I'm
convinced the guy never sleeps! Even though he oversaw the entire
submission process, multiplexing himself across all the tracks, he was so
responsive that I felt like I had his services all to myself. Thanks,
Richard!

Hi Richard,
I just finished entering all of my tutorial reviews and I wanted to tell you
what a pleasure your system was! Particularly after I entered everything and
wanted to compare my reviews to others - the color coding was great, it was
easy to drop into seeing the differences and changing mine. Everything was
completely intuitive and easy. One of the best systems I've used in a long
time.
Thanks!

Laura Hill, Director Java Projects, Sun Labs, Sun Microsystems
- I have found CyberChair extremely useful. It has basically simplified a
lot my work and I strongly advise you to use it.
CyberChair has been used now for several years at ECOOP, so all
authors are familiar with it...
CyberChair also assembled the proceedings, including the front
pages (such TOC, index, sponsor page with logo). I had only
to write the first page containing my preface to the proceedings.
Since ECOOP proceedings are printed by Springer-Verlag, CyberChair
also took care of uploading all the files to the Springer site.
I found CyberChair the most complete and efficient system for handling
the review process, and really reduced my work quite a lot.
In this way, I could concentrate on the paper and review contents, and I
did not have to worry about a lot of things. As you can see, it does a
lot. It has been used for several years and it is very robust.
- Elisa Bertino, Program Chair of ECOOP 2000 [Note: I, Richard van de Stadt, handled the online submission and reviewing system for ECOOP 2000, and took care of the proceedings.]
- CyberChair was great. We had no problems with for either reviewers
and authors (at least i got no complaints) and also for the program
chairs. it has some very nice features. While it didn't "reduce the
reviewing process" in terms of the time to actually
review a paper (it doesn't really understand paper content ;-) it
certainly reduced other aspects of the review process, such as the
time to organize the reviews, present the material to the program
committee. I would definitely use it again.
- Debra J. Richardson, Program Co-Chair of IWSSD-10 [Note: I, Richard van de Stadt, handled the online submission and reviewing system for IWSSD-10.]
- I would rather have the job done by someone else than by my
assistants here. I would have asked
you to do this for icse if I had known you were willing :-).
- Mehdi Jazayeri, Program Chair of ICSE 2000 (See also An Interview With the Program Co-Chairs)
- CyberChair undoubtedly eliminated countless hours of
time-consuming and error-prone work consolidating
submission information and reviews, cutting and
pasting pieces of reviews to create response letters,
and gathering statistics about the submissions and
reviews. I would use it again. - David Rosenblum,
Program Chair of ACM SIGSOFT 2000 Eighth International
Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering (FSE-8)
- I wanted to tell you that I found the review system very easy,
productive,
and friendly to use. The colors, showing conflicts, and easy access to all
relevant papers and reviews is really impressive and well-done.
Thanks!
- ECOOP'99 program committee member
- Let me add something: I am involved in 8 PC committees this year, including
ACM and IEEE prestigious ones: all use some electronic system to handle the
reviews but none is as great as Richard's one.
- Rachid Guerraoui, Program Chair of ECOOP'99 [Note: I, Richard van de Stadt, handled the online submission and reviewing system for ECOOP'99, and took care of the proceedings.]
- The coloring system is absolutely great.
It is extremely gratifying to see the colors soon after typing
in the reviews.
- ECOOP'99 program committee member
- I think you are doing a wonderful job.
- PS: Thanks for your marvelous work on the ECOOP PC server. It is just
great and extremely useful !
- BTW, I should also tell you that I find the ECOOP PC site one of the
best, more functional, sites that I've ever seen! Your scripts are
truly well done. Good work!
- Cristina Lopes, ECOOP'99 program committee member
- (...) And thanks once more for Richard for his support that was so
essential in making it all work smoothly!
- Just to let you know that I thought the web-based reviewing was great and
your support (to resolve unprintable docs etc.) was just great!
- ECOOP'99 program committee member
- BTW, you got a round of applause at the end of the PC meeting!
Everybody was very happy with the system and enjoyed using it!
- Oscar Nierstrasz, Program Co-Chair of FSE/ESEC'99
